During an inauguration day in his new role, Zohran Mamdani vowed to “reinvent” America's largest city, promising “a new era” and an audacious commencement to his term.

An Unprecedented Leader

The new figure, who was a virtually unknown state assemblyman, is the city's first mayor born in Africa. He also made history by being the inaugural to be sworn in using the Islamic holy text.
