Reports indicate that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.

A Major Return to Panem

The duo are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Industry whispers indicate their cameos will take the form of a future-set scene, as the original saga concluded with their characters married and with children.

This represents the sixth cinematic outing in the global Hunger Games franchise.

The Source Material

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who directed nearly all the previous films in the series.

The Storyline and Fresh Faces

The film's story are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

The film welcomes several accomplished actors in pivotal roles:

• Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the menacing President Snow.

Current Projects and Release Timeline

Separately, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson stars in the sequel to the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
